Evergreen Stables is a teaching stable where you can learn the basics of English or Western Horseback riding and care for the horse without fear. We have a few good western horses as well as our English horses.

Gift Certificates are available for whatever you'd like

Horseback Riding Lessons:
We start riding lessons at age 7, though older children are able to learn more, and learn more quickly. Adult Students are also very welcome. We have safe horses that will teach you what you need to know about how to control the horse in many situations. Our emphasis is on the equitation of the rider. We believe that if the rider has good equitation, then the rider could ride most any horse or discipline.

Our lessons are only private (1 rider) or semi-private (2 riders) lessons. We do not do group lessons (more than 2 riders). You can have a lesson on your horse or one of our lesson horses. It’s $35 for a 45 minute private lesson, or $25 for a 45 minute semi-private lesson. We teach everyone how to tack, untack and care for the horse. That includes, grooming, tacking, warming up, riding, and cooling down your horse. We want you learn how to take care of a horse in the event you would ever want to buy one or even lease.

We have lessons every day of the week excluding Sundays, when there are no lessons. Most lessons are Monday through Friday from 5pm-8pm. Also Saturdays from 10am-3pm. Please call for availability. Lessons are usually once a week, for as many weeks as you would like to do. Keep coming and taking lessons, but let us know if things change. There are no sessions to sign up for.

Also we offer lessons at your own place. If you would like some lessons on your horse, but don’t want to leave your own property, then we can travel to your place. We will travel as far as 20 miles from our farm. Please give us a call if your interested in learning more.

We do not offer trail riding for the general public. Please look on the links page for trail riding areas near Rochester, NY.

Boarding:
We also have boarding available for anyone needed a full care service stable. Call for availability. Our emphasize is on horsemanship and all natural horse care. All horses are treated as if they are our own, with love and care. We also try to simulate the most natural way a horse lives. Horses' welfare comes first. We provide full care service with three times a day grain and hay feedings and more often hay throughout the day. Group turn outs simulate some of the same natural herd tendencies, but still keeping the genders separate to help discourage any misbehavior.
We have our own barn vet and barn farrier. If you choose to use them we will set up appointments and your horse will be taken care of. You don't have to be there to hold you horse, we will do that for you without extra charge.
Looking for a horse? We can help you purchase a horse and help you learn how to care for its needs.
We also offer winter board. If you would like a place to ride, but can't in the winter, feel free to board here for a few months. Call for availability though.
No long term contracts required but a general contract for 30 days is.

We have lessons every day of the week excluding Sundays, when there are no regular lessons, but the barn is open to the boarders and to those who lease a horse. The barn is open 7 days a week and on holidays from 9 AM to 9 PM. Boarders are allowed to ride with the lessons but lesson students have the right of way. Also, boarders do not have to take lessons, or have any training when you stay here, but are available if desired.

Horse Shows:
We go to some horse shows in the area but showing is not a mandatory part of the program. We are a member of the Empire State Riding Academy Horse Show Series. (ESRAS) This is a group of 4 shows in the summer for lesson students on lesson horses only. Both Adult riders and Juniors have fun showing off their skills.

We also go to Clarkson Open Horse Show show series which is for English and Western Riders.
We can also trailer you to any other local show so long as you board here. Just let us know when and where you'd like to go.

Newsletter:
We put out a monthly newsletter to all out lesson students and boarders to keep up with current events and happenings around the farm (Pony Tales). Feel free to check out what is happening this month.

**We also have an online group for everyone to write to each other with their ideas, or getting together for a ride and any cancellations we might have.

RIT Equestrian Club:

Did you know Rochester Institute of Technology has an equestrian club? Most RIT students and staff didn't know either. It's a club run sport that not just a horseback rider can enjoy. You can just have the love of the horse and be with people who love them too. Lessons and showing are optional.
Here at Evergreen Stables, we teach the western half of the club. Anyone who wants to try riding western is welcome to come on by, even if it's just once. Get points for being in the club and riding. Interested in trying horse showing? We participate in the IHSA horse show series in Zone 2 Region 1. Check out more information here at their website: http://www.rit.edu/~w-equest/
